Biography

Slava Demin was born on April 15, 1960 in Moscow. After high school, he went to work at the Mosfilm film studio in the art department. In 1979 he entered the Moscow Art School at the theater department. At that time he became a member of the youth dissident movement.

In 1984 he was arrested for anti-Soviet activities. In 1985 he was sentenced to exile, which was in Kazakhstan until 1987. After the amnesty of political prisoners, he returned to Moscow.

He got back to work in film, engaging in artistic activities along with other young avant-garde artists. In 1990s, he got into social and political activities. He was a journalist and publisher of Orthodox patriotic newspapers.

In the early 2000s, he returned to work as an art director in film. Several times he was nominated for awards on Moscow film festivals for art directing. He acted in films in episodic roles. In these years he began to actively engage in literary and journalistic activities. Author of several books.

Since 2017 he lives in the USA, Washington state and continues his art work.
